The Atlas LC Book Holder from Dainoff Designs is designed to accommodate thicker than average books or stacks of documents. A 4" deep shelf provides the extra depth necessary for these large volumes and will support up to 25 lbs. The included line guide can be used to guide the eyes across an entire line of text or can be reversed for viewing of narrower column data.
The Atlas LC is equipped with a transparent, 3" round, spring-loaded document clip for holding documents up to 2" thick. The clip can be mounted in any available hole on the back of the Atlas and is equipped with grippers for added holding power. Convenient page-holder dowels (included) can be inserted at any position on the shelf to keep books open at the desired page and can also be used as reference point markers.
The efficient design of the Atlas LC Book Holder can serve well as a document holder, book holder, or even as a tablet or laptop holder. This makes it a versatile accessory for any workstation. | Ergonomic Benefits |
---|
Reduces Strain on the Hands, Arms and Shoulders - The Atlas LC Book Holder offers hands-free reading at work, at home and at college. The 4" deep shelf on the Atlas LC is able to support even oversized books and heavy binders, user manuals and case documents, novels and large cookbooks, and heavy medical and legal text books.
Reduces Strain on the Neck and Upper Back - The Atlas LC Book Holder allows users to maintain healthy alignment of the spine through the neck, shoulders and upper back. The adjustable shelf lets materials be positioned at a comfortable viewing height. When this is combined with the easy angle adjustment, the book holder helps users avoid repeatedly looking down at the desk. This decreases the potential for strain at the back of the neck and in the upper back as the head can now be held in a much more neutral position, reducing the risk of repetitive strain injuries (RSI) and headaches.
Reduces Eye Fatigue and Strain - The free-standing Atlas Book Holder can be placed at the recommended viewing distance whether reading for pleasure, or referencing materials adjacent to the monitor at work. As well, viewing documents at an angle approximately perpendicular to the line of sight eliminates the perspective distortion created when documents are laid flat upon the surface. This means that the eyes are not required to be constantly changing focus while moving up or down the page which can significantly decrease the risk of fatigue to the muscles of the eyes. The high viewing angles which the Atlas LC Book Holder is capable of makes it well suited to address these concerns.
Improves Readability - Viewing materials with perspective distortion requires the brain to process more data in order to compensate and interpret the data correctly. This is especially valid when viewing written documents laid flat on a work surface. Since more concentration and effort is required to accurately comprehend the content both the speed at which content can be read as well as the level of comprehension are improved when material is oriented closer to the plane perpendicular to the line of sight.

- Adjustable Viewing Height: The shelf on the Atlas LC Book Holder is easily raised to bring reading materials to an ergonomic viewing height. This reduces the need to bend the neck to view lower portions of the page. Of course, heavier books or binders need to be positioned at a height which keeps them securely positioned on the book holder.
- Adjustable Viewing Angle: The back of the Atlas LC can be positioned at 11 viewing angles between 13° to 62° from vertical. This quick and easy adjustment allows effortless viewing for working and reading, further reducing the need to bend the neck.
- Versatile: The 14.5" (36.8 cm) wide, 3" (7.6 cm) deep shelf holds all kinds of documents — large, awkward, small, bound, loose-leaf, single sheet, fan-fold, stapled, etc. The page stoppers and spring-loaded clip ensure three-ring binders, thick manuals and short documents are all no problem!
- Convenient Page Stoppers: Metal dowels can be placed through any available dowel hole on the shelf to prevent books from closing and keep reference materials in the desired position.
- Multi-Purpose Design: Atlas Book Holders can also work well as Tablet or Laptop/Notebook holders. Easily strong enough to support any size of laptop or tablet, the adjustable height and viewing angle makes them well-suited to serve in this additional capacity.
- Storage Groove: The handy storage groove provides convenient storage for page stoppers, pens, pencils and other stationery.
- Simple Wood and Dowel Construction: The time-tested simplicity of its design and construction makes the Atlas Book Holder a practical solution for users of all ages and technical abilities. Securing documents, raising and lowering the shelf, and adjusting the viewing angle are all quickly and easily accomplished by moving the metal dowels.
- Reversible Line Guide: The simple, practical design of the line-guide allows it to be used in two different ways— the narrow block helps users navigate columns of text or data, the wide block helps readers remain oriented in written text.
- Spring-loaded Document Clip: The transparent spring-loaded disc securely holds documents up to 2" thick without interfering with readability. It can conveniently be repositioned to any available hole on the back of the Atlas. Also included is a stainless steel dowel with a rubber band collar for use on the back.
- Convenient Page Stoppers: Metal dowels can be placed through any available dowel hole on the shelf to prevent books from closing and keep reference materials in the desired position.
- Sturdy: The attractive yet heavy-duty construction allows the holder to support documents weighing over 25 lbs (11.3 kg), so it will accommodate your dictionary, reference book, medical, law and other text books.
- Durable: In production since 1994, Atlas Book Holders have a reputation for durability.

| Usage Tips |
---|
- Move your documents to a suitable viewing height when possible. Raising them to where you no longer have to bend your neck to view them can significantly decrease the risk of development of neck or shoulder pain. Of course, larger documents or books may still need to have the shelf positioned at a lower setting.
- Adjust the angle of your Atlas LC Book Holder to orient your reading materials perpendicular to your line of sight. Doing this will increase readability and eliminate perspective distortion which can reduce reading speed and requires a higher degree of concentration.
- Position the Book Holder as close to your left or right as possible. This reduces the amount of neck rotation required view the documents which will reduce the risk of developing a repetitive strain injury (RSI) in your neck.
- Use the document clip and the page stoppers to optimize the value of your Atlas. Read the Owner's Guide to get pointers on how to best benefit from the features included in the Atlas design.
- Maintain a correct viewing distance by positioning the Atlas as close to your optimum reading distance as possible. This will reduce the potential for eyestrain from trying to read out-of-focus materials.
- If you are writing on materials on the Atlas, try not to rest the underside of your arm against the edge of the shelf as this can reduce circulation.
