RollerMouse Free3by Contour Design Inc. |
| Product Summary |
---|
The RollerMouse Free3 by Contour Design is the lowest profile RollerMouse model in the RollerMouse inline pointing device family of products. At only 0.9" high, this low profile mouse will seamlessly work with most standard rectangular-style keyboards without getting in the way while typing. The Free3 boasts several improved features over its predecessor, including more and faster speeds (10 speeds from 600 to 2800 dpi), two new buttons for forward and back in most internet browsers, more padding in the new built-in wrist support for added comfort, and an aluminum base on the underside of the unit for increased strength and stability. In addition, the rollerbar has been redesigned with a new sensor, allowing for more precise cursor movements, so that the cursor can easily move over multiple screens. As many users now work with two or more screens, these added features ensure that the Free3 will easily work with the overall screen size of such users.
The Free3 also comes in either a wired or wireless version, so that those who want to reduce extra wires or complicated cable management have the choice of going wireless. The wireless version has an on/off switch to save on power if needed, as well as a small receiver (USB) that can be securely stored in the magnetized battery housing when not in use.
Available in black colour only.
Note: Keyboard not included. For those familiar with the Rollermouse Free2, it is important to note that the wrist support is not removable on the Free3.

Eliminates Overreaching for a Traditional Mouse, Relieving Neck, Shoulder and Elbow Pain - Conventional keyboards will result in overreaching for the mouse as the user is forced to reach over the arrow keys and numeric keypad to get to the mouse. This can lead to neck, shoulder and elbow pain and discomfort. Asymmetrical reaching with one side of the body of a user and not the other causes muscle groups to compensate for the weight of the extended arm while reaching for a traditional mouse. Repetitive overreaching will often lead to tightness and pain in the neck, shoulder and elbow areas. The RollerMouse Free3 allows the user to keep their elbows comfortably at their sides.
Prevents Static Grip of the Mouse - The rollerbar of the RollerMouse Free3 is controlled with an open relaxed hand and slightly curled fingers - there is no gripping or holding with the hand. The rollerbar mechanism effectively eliminates static grip forces which accompany most conventional mice. The fingertips of the user are used to move a rollerbar, sliding it side to side to provide horizontal cursor movement and rolling it to generate vertical movement of the cursor. There is almost no friction or resistance associated with this movement, greatly reducing muscle activity and reducing compression through the carpal tunnel. Learn More About Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.
Ambidextrous Cursor Control - By centrally locating the mouse buttons inline beneath the keyboard home keys, mouse control is equidistant from either hand. Ambidextrous use is encouraged and easily accomplished, to an even greater degree than with the older RollerMouse Pro2, as the rollerbar of the Free3 is substantially wider.
Click with Any Finger - Any finger can be used to generate left clicks on the rollerbar, unlike most mice which require the index finger to generate all left clicks. This repetitive activity can lead to trigger finger Learn More About Trigger Finger.
One Touch Access to High Frequency Actions - Dedicated buttons for Copy, Paste, Back, Forward, and Double Click prevent awkward combination keystrokes and unnecessary cursor targeting.

- Rollerbar: The truly unique feature of the RollerMouse Free3 is the rollerbar, best described as a cylindrical trackball with an optical sensor of 600 to 2800 dpi. The rollerbar works by rolling the bar to move the cursor up and down on the screen. To move the cursor left or right, simply slide the rollerbar side to side.
- End Detection: In order that cursor movement remain centered throughout usage, there is an end detection mechanism that shifts the cursor to the left or right side of the screen when the rollerbar can no longer be physically moved any further left or right. Tactile feedback is provided in the form of a click that can be felt as the end limit of the range of the rollerbar is reached, indicating that end detection has been engaged. This feature is required less frequently on the Free3 as the rollerbar is fully exposed and longer (10") than on the Pro3.
- Bar Click Tension Adjustments: A slider on the bottom will adjust the tension of Rollerbar click force. This feature can be helpful for individuals who find that they often accidentally click on the bar while typing.
- Palm Supports: The RollerMouse Free3 also comes with non-removable leatherette palm supports that relieve stress on the wrists while typing and using the rollerbar. These supports can be easily cleaned when necessary.
- Easy to Use Keyboard "Lifters": Ultra-slim keyboards are becoming increasing popular, so Contour Design has included two keyboard lifters that allow one to change the height and angle of the keyboard. There are three heights to choose from: low (flat), high (flat), and sloping down and away from the user (negative inclination).
- Plug and Play Connectivity for both PC and Mac Computers: The Rollermouse is an HID compliant device has the drivers on board and simply needs to be plugged into any empty USB port, without the need for a cumbersome connection routine.
- Nine Button Functions: There are two easy options to perform a left click. Either push down on the navigation bar itself, or click on the large left button in the button control area. Other button functions include a traditional right click button, a single touch double click button, a scroll wheel, a Scroll Lock , One Touch Copy, Paste, Back, and Forward.
- Cursor Speed Selection: The RollerMouse Free3 has 10 different cursor speed settings selected by a control button with five indicator lights. The dpi increments are each 200 or 400 dpi: 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600, 2000, 2400, and 2800.
- Slim, Compact and Low Profile: The Free3 is the slimmest and lowest profile RollerMouse model available at only 0.9" in height and 19.25" wide.

| Usage Tips |
---|
- Do not use your thumbs to move the rollerbar! The rollerbar is designed to be moved by the fingers, which are pulled towards the user when the rollerbar is accessed. While using the thumbs may feel natural at first, using the thumbs this way will over time cause fatigue and pain (thumbs are not designed for such repetitive, fine-tuned action).
- Make sure the edge of the keyboard closest to you is straight with no built-in palm support. This point is very important, since any curved edge or palm support between keyboard and RollerMouse will only create more distance between the user and the keyboard, creating additional problems of overreaching.
- Clean out the rollerbar channel area once in a while. This is advised so that you get the greatest life expectancy for your RollerMouse. Due to build up of debris in critical parts of the RollerMouse mechanisms, the internal sensors and switches can malfunction over time. Instead, turn over your RollerMouse and gently tap it to dislodge any particles in the rollerbar channel. Better still, if you have compressed air available, use it to blow out any debris or dirt.
- If you are going to use your RollerMouse and keyboard on a tray, make sure the tray is at least 10.5" deep. Since many standard keyboards are about 6" deep and the RollerMouse itself can be from 3" to 3.5" deep (depending on model), you will need a tray at least 10.5" deep in order to properly stabilize both keyboard and mouse on the tray surface.
- Take turns using either left or right hands to move the rollerbar. By alternating hands periodically, you lessen the fatigue in both hands, and so help reduce the overall risk of developing pain from extensive mousing. The ambidextrous nature of the RollerMouse encourages such usage. Once you are trained in working this way, it will become second nature.
