PURE Office Chairs from Interstuhl provide an invigorating seating experience that defies the accepted norms of traditional office seating. This innovative design incorporates movement into every minute of the day, with Smart Spring technology that lets the seat and back rest flex and shift with each change in posture, adapting to the varying needs of each person. When describing the sensation of sitting in a PUREis3 Chair words such as "springy", "bouncy", or "resilient" will immediately come to mind but this is a chair that truly needs to be experienced. The sensation is almost as if the chair is actively increasing energy levels while still providing excellent support.
Unlike many seating options, the flexible back on the PURE Chair focuses on actively encouraging people to re-integrate movement into their workday, even while seated. PURE Chairs accomplish this by flexing, bending and twisting to follow the body's natural movements. Unlike a fixed back rest that remains facing forward at all times, the back rest on the PURE is designed to follow the body, letting individuals instinctively engage in a greater degree of motion as they move. The seat on the Interstuhl PURE is supported on the same fibreglass and polyamid Smart Spring structure as the back rest. This facilitates both forward and side-to-side flexing, providing continuous movement to the hips and lower spine, while also moving dynamically in relation to the back rest.
PURE Chairs are also unusual in that only simple adjustments are necessary - the chair takes care of the rest. Seat height ranges between 19.0" and 23.25", the back rest can lock at 90° in relation to the seat, and the 3-D T Arm Rests offer height, width, and depth adjustments. The need for other common adjustments is taken care of by the PURE design.
The most comfortable and beneficial way to use the PURE Chair is to leave the back rest unlocked to follow every movement. For situations where a more traditional posture is desired the back rest can also be locked into a fixed upright position in relation to the seat. However, even in this position the back rest retains a full range of flex and the dynamic seat movement remains unchanged, offering continuous movement.
Both models of the PUREis3 Chair have a padded seat upholstered in Black Lucia Fabric. This model, the PU113 Series, features the backrest covered in the same Black Lucia fabric with a light padding - a combination that results in a slightly higher resistance to flex in the back rest. For individuals of lighter build who are seeking to maximize the movement and flexion of the back support, the PU213 Series is noticeably more flexible as there is no upholstery to deaden or mute the movement of the frame. The mesh back not only permits the maximum degree of flex it also provides a greater degree of air flow. Both models are exceptionally comfortable.
Helps to Improve Overall Body Health - The conventional seated position (i.e. 90º bend) restricts both blood and fluid flows through the internal organs. The PUREis3 can open that bend up to 128°. Regular employment of this feature can benefit the body's internal operations by reducing potential restrictions in the digestive tract and permitting the diaphragm to move more freely which in turn can significantly increase cardiovascular activity.
Can Reduce Neck and Shoulder Issues - PUREis3 Chairs feature 3-D armrests with an extensive range of adjustment in width, depth, and height. These adjustments enable each person to position the armrests to offer support where it will provide the greatest benefit, while yet remaining easily adjustable should changes in tasks warrant. Adjusting the armrests as needed ensures that the shoulder joints are not overloaded and that the muscles of the shoulders and neck are not overstrained. A side benefit of this can be a reduction to the risk of development of muscle tension which can lead to performance-reducing or potentially debilitating headaches.
Increases Mental Alertness - The range of movement encouraged by the PUREis3 can naturally increase cardiovascular activity. This moves more oxygen to the brain and contributes to a greater degree of mental alertness which can lead to greater productivity as individuals may also find themselves able to remain alert and comfortable for greater periods.
Can Help Maintain Core Muscle Toning - The movement encouraged by the Smart Spring technology keeps muscles actively engaged. The continuous small adjustments made when shifting between tasks can be combined with simply taking a moment to lean back and move through the full range of movement to have the added benefit of encouraging cardiovascular activity with the associated improvement in overall alertness.
Can Reduce General Fatigue - Movement is key to ensuring that worker fatigue is controlled. Static sitting at a workstation reduces blood flow and encourages shallow breathing. Combined, these result in a reduction in oxygen to both the brain and body tissue, contributing to overall fatigue. The PUREis3 encourages movement with a design that follows the body's every movement rather than forcing it into a static position.
Encourages Active Movement - The Smart Spring technology encourages regular movement which keeps lubricating fluid moving through joints, reducing or eliminating stiffness, and also actively stretches muscles which can become shortened from extended static sitting. Occupants will find themselves moving much more than in any traditional office chair as the PUREis3 is specifically designed to permit the body to naturally move throughout a much broader range of motion than standard office chairs will permit.
Encourages Correct Posture at Workstation - Seat height is easily adjusted using a lever on the underside of the seat. This enables occupants to easily set their seat to a height appropriate to their build, optimizing their posture at their workstation.
Minimizes "Chair Adjustment Fatigue" - The PUREis3 minimizes the number of adjustments that are necessary, with the Smart Spring technology dynamically adjusting to individual builds and movement patterns. This is in contrast to the wide range of settings available on most office chairs that can intimidate people to the point that they never adjust their chair to best meet their personal requirements.
Smart Spring Technology: The Smart Spring technology employed on PUREis3 Chairs encourages continuous almost-unfettered movement. This movement can be used to avoid the potential risks of static sitting, even when remaining seated. It also lets occupants continuously vary their posture throughout the day, even opening the torso angle up to 128°. For situations where too much freedom of movement may interfere with work the backrest can also be locked at 90° while still permitting the seat to move freely and the back rest to flex with torso movement.
Optional Backrest 90° Limit: For situations where a more upright 90° posture is desired the backrest tilt lockout can be used to position the back at a traditional fixed upright position. However, the seat still moves freely and the back rest still flexes to provide enhanced comfort not readily available in more traditional seating.
Integrated Lumbar Support: The back rest features a high-strength fibreglass and polyamid frame that gently flexes and contours to the back, providing a "natural" spring-like support in just the right place. Because of the flex there is no rigid support or an excessive degree of firmness that can occur in other chairs.
Padded Fabric Back: The PURE PU113 is upholstered in Black Lucia fabric with a thin layer of padding for added comfort.
Load-Dependent Casters for Hard Floors: To ensure safety the PURE Chair is equipped with soft 65 mm load-dependent casters. This means that the chair will not roll away when unoccupied. These casters do not lock, they only exert just enough resistance so that the chair does not roll on its own when weight is removed. It is still possible to re-position the chair with minimal effort. When the chair is occupied the brake fully disengages, permitting virtually effortless chair movement.
Tilting Seat: The Smart Spring technology facilitates up to 12° of forward tilt, and up to 13° (26° combined) of side tilt. Tilt is dynamic, from a central point, and cannot be locked out.
Upholstered for Comfort: The upholstery on the seat is not glued to the foam, meaning that breathability is optimized for comfort.
"Waterfall Front" Seatpan: PUREis3 Chairs are equipped with a "waterfall" front to reduce the risk of unnecessary pressure being exerted against the back of the thighs.
3-D T-Armrests: The PURE Chair features 3-D Armrests that are adjustable for height, width (from the inner edge of the left armrest to the inner edge of the right armrest), and depth (forward and backward). See "Specifications" below for detailed range of movement. Note: For safety the armrests should not be removed.
Sturdy Base: The PURE PU113 Series Chair sits on a large, sturdy 28" diameter 5-point plastic base to ensure stability when taking advantage of the available range of movement.
Integrated Handle: Because the casters keep the chair from rolling when unoccupied moving the PUREis3 requires a small degree of effort. The top of the backrest can serve as a simple handle to make re-positioning the chair easier.

You most likely will not need this reminder but make a point of actively engaging with Smart Spring movement throughout the day. While you may choose to lock the backrest in the upright position while performing specific tasks, try to work as much as possible with the chair moving freely. This will optimize the benefit you can receive from your PURE Chair.
Adjust the armrests to provide support when in a neutral position, with elbows resting comfortably at your sides and shoulders relaxed. The 3-D armrests are highly adjustable and can easily be repositioned when moving between task types.
When adjusting the height of your PUREis3 Chair, aim for an elevation which lets your elbows open slightly more than 90° while your hands are resting on the keyboard or mouse. If your feet are unable to rest flat against the floor you may need to add a footrest to your workstation. If you are too low and the angle of your legs and torso is less than 90 then you should raise your chair to the appropriate level while also raising your input devices to a similarly appropriate height. Positioning your chair to this point will not only provide an ideal ergonomic position for your hands, wrists and arms, it will also let you reap the optimal benefits of the movement available through the Smart Spring technology.
