CEPHEUS Compact Desktop Sit-Stand Retrofit

The CEPHEUS Compact Desktop Sit-Stand Retrofit from ErgoVerse will convert any stationary fixed-height desk into a sit-stand desk. These compact freestanding units require no modifications to the existing desk and can be set up in under 10 minutes. The 15" of height adjustment provide keyboard elevations up to 15.75" above the mounting surface height with a corresponding upper work surface elevation from 5.5" to 20.5".

The CEPHEUS is designed as a compact sit-stand retrofit so the overall depth of the unit is only 24". The actual desk footprint is just 17.5" deep which means that the CEPHEUS can be deployed on desk surfaces as shallow as 18". Because the keyboard projects 6.5" further forward the result is a more ergonomic viewing distance to the monitor(s) as well as an improvement in foot space, both of which are quite limited with very shallow desks. Although the CEPHEUS is designed as a compact solution and does have a shallow footprint, the width of the keyboard tray is still 25.5", enough to accommodate most standard keyboard and mouse combinations. With a depth of 11.625" it is also deep enough for deployment of a central pointing device and an average depth standard keyboard. The upper worksurface is a full 31.5" in width, easily wide enough for placement of very large single monitors and many dual monitor combinations. The 15.75" depth means that even with the monitors in place there is still depth available for placement of documents, especially with an inline document holder.

The gas cylinder mechanism exerts a maximum counterbalance force of 33 lbs when making height adjustments on the CEPHUS and is locked and unlocked via a single release paddle on the right side of the unit. The transverse X-style design permits the keyboard and work surfaces to move straight up or down without forcing one to step away from the desk when moving to a standing position. This means that it also works well in smaller work areas where the cantilever design common on many other sit-stand converters forces individuals to step back and away from the desk. The CEPHEUS adjustment mechanism can be locked at any point within the adjustment range (from 0.75" to 15.75" above the desk surface). The upper work surface maintains a constant 4.75" above the selected keyboard height setting.
Note: Monitors should be placed directly on the CEPHEUS upper work surface. The manufacturer does not endorse the use of monitor arms and cannot support this application. If a larger keyboard tray, upper work surface, or monitor arm mounting is desired the CASSIOPEIA Desktop Sit-Stand Retrofit from ErgoVerse should be considered.

• Free Standing (No Drilling or Clamping): The CEPHEUS is ideal for deployment where modifications to existing workstations are not permitted, such as drilling into the desk. The wide footprint of the base allows the unit to be positioned on a desk top without creating a tipping hazard. Pads underneath the base prevent scuffing or scratching of the desktop.
• Dual Monitor Mounting: The 31.5" wide worksurface provides enough space to safely support the bases of most dual monitor combinations up to 23" diagonal (simply place monitors beside each other and measure the distance of the bases from left to right).

• Gas Cylinder Mechanism: The CEPHEUS utilizes a single gas cylinder controlled from a right hand paddle release to provide up to 33 lbs of counterforce when making height adjustments. Gas cylinders generally provide smoother movement than spring mechanisms and are dependable and durable over time.
• Transverse X-Style Vertical Motion: Many retrofit desktop units have a cantilevering mechanism that moves the worksurface forward as it is raised. This motion pushes the operator back from the desk and may be a problem where space is limited or with freestanding objects. The CEPHEUS, on the other hand, employs a transverse X-Style mechanism which moves the worksurface straight up vertically, preventing the aforementioned issues from occurring.
• Infinite Height Settings: In order to offer the ultimate in personalized comfort, the CEPHEUS can be locked in position at any point within the 15" range.
• Compact Design: The CEPHEUS features a shallow desk footprint of just 17.5", meaning it can be deployed on the shallowest 18" deep desk. Because the keyboard extends 6.5" forward it actually improves the available view distance and foot space below shallow desks.

• To raise or lower the CEPHEUS, squeeze the release paddle on the right side. With the paddle squeezed, raise or lower the work surface to the desired height and then release the paddle to engage the locking mechanism.
• Move between standing and sitting on a regular basis. If you are just starting out with a sit-stand desk, maintain yourself in the standing position for brief intervals - don't try to stand for extended periods until your body has adjusted and become comfortable.
• If you find standing tiring, consider purchasing a quality anti-fatigue mat which can significantly increase your comfort by enabling your feet and legs to shift slightly while you work.
• Consider a "leaning" style of seat rather than going back to the standard office chair. Using a seat such as this can ease the load on the feet and legs while still providing most of the benefits of the fully upright standing posture.
